April 8 — Café Aman Project at Barbès

CAFÉ AMAN PROJECT is a women-led diasporic collective celebrating Greek Anatolian music and dance! We remember the stories of love, nostalgia, exile and longing for homeland which permeate the experience of the Greeks of Anatolia. The musical repertoire is Rembetika and Smyrneika— the fusion of Greek and Ottoman urban folk which proliferated in Athens and Asia Minor at the turn of the 20th century. They are Mediterranean melodies which emanate joy and sorrow, and that have survived the last 100 years.

Rodini Shamhalis: violin, vocals

Maria Dellaporta: qanun, vocals

Erikos Vlesmas: bass

David Chorowski: oud/lavta

Kazuki Kozuru: darbuka

Myrto Daskaloudi: dancer
